Supervisor’s Academy

Course Description

The Supervisor’s Academy has been offered by the Regional Training Center since 1985.  The Academy is for supervisors at every level (from upper management to first line supervisor), and for aspiring supervisors. The sessions are designed specifically for employees in local government and for the difficult and complex environment in which these employees work.

The Academy is five days in duration; the first two days occur back to back the first week of the program, followed by three one-day sessions once a week. Although some theory is presented, the primary emphasis is on understanding and skill development.  The schedule provides time for presentation of material and an opportunity for practice during class.  Because of the separation between training days, participants can apply their learning in the workplace immediately, then deal with on-going situations, successes and failures, when they return to the Academy.
