POST ICI Technology in Investigations Course

Course Description:This is a technology course specifically created to meet the needs of California law enforcement investigators regardless of the crimes they are assigned to investigate.  This course falls under the POST Robert Presley Institute of Criminal Investigations (ICI).  A 40 hour course on the use of technology in investigations, this course will provide the student with the skills and knowledge to successfully utilize technology in their investigations.

  • Internet Searches and Resources
  • Electronic Surveillance
  • IP and Email Tracing
  • Search Warrants (Technology focused)
  • Cellular telephone Operation and Tracking
  • Legal Issues and Privacy Concerns
  • Social Networking Systems
  • Electronic Evidence Takedown Protocols.
  • Patrol training
  • High-tech Scenario Practicals
  • High-tech Scenario Presentations
Prerequisites: There are several prerequisites for this ICI Technology course.  You must meet all of these in order to attend this course. While several, they are not overwhelming and can easily be completed. If you have any questions or issues around these prerequisites, please contact the RTC as soon as possible.  While this is not a search warrant writing class, it is recognized that writing a proper search warrant in relation to technology is essential in investigations.

With that in mind, the following have been established as a minimum baseline for students attending this course:
Have written and served, a minimum of two search warrants (must bring copies to class)
  OR
Attended the two week ICI Core Course
  OR
Have taken the POST Online "Search Warrant Fundamentals" Class on the POST Learning Portal (must print and bring certificate of completion).  Completion of this online class does give 3 hours of CPT credit.
   
All students are required to bring a laptop computer with them to class that has wireless Internet capabilities, Microsoft Word and administrator rights or the ability to install software on the computer.

Reimbursement Plan IV- There is no tuition for POST reimbursable agencies. Student travel and per diem reimbursement will be via Training Reimbursement Request (TRR) for POST reimbursable agencies only

Non-Reimbursable agencies tuition: $676.00 and there is no reimbursement for travel and per diem.
