PUBLIC AGENCY COURSE
SUPERVISOR'S ACADEMY

The Supervisor’s Academy has been offered by the Regional Training Center since 1985. The Academy is for supervisors at every level (from management to first line supervisor) and for aspiring supervisors. The sessions are designed specifically for local government and for the difficult and complex environment in which their employees work.

The Academy is seven days in duration; the first six days are in sets of two, separated by two weeks; the last day is a "follow-up" day, 3-4 months later. Although some theory is presented, the emphasis is on understanding and skill development. The schedule provides time for presentation of material and an opportunity for practice in the workshop.
Because of the two weeks separation between pairs of days, participants can apply their learning in the workplace immediately, then deal with on-going situations, success and failures, when they return to the workshop.

Comments from Supervisor’s Academy Graduates
“ The practical examples of issues in supervision and real-life methods to handle those issues was most valuable to me. Also, learning the principles of human behavior was helpful in dealing with our staff.”
      – Supervising Public Assistance Investigator
“ I truly enjoyed this presentation. The tag-team instructor package was unique. The class was enlightening!”
      – Fleet Manager
“ The most valuable aspect of the Academy was the ability to recognize not only how, but why we act or react to events and how that affects others around us. Best course I ever attended.”
      – Management Analyst
“ Group discussion and activities allowed us to learn as much from each other as we did from the instructors. The Academy was so interesting and Bob and Mike complemented each other so well.”
      – Life Guard Lieutenant
